Urgent Humanitarian Appeal for Flood-Affected Population in Jubaland State, Somalia

NAPAD, a local organization operating within the Gedo Region, is committed to serving the nomadic communities through humanitarian and resilience-building efforts. We aim to promote sustainable peace and human development amongst vulnerable communities in the Horn of Africa by advancing social justice, economic resilience, and climate change adaptation.

Urgent Humanitarian Situation:

I bring to your attention the critical humanitarian situation in Somalia. Ongoing devastating floods are profoundly impacting livelihoods and displacing thousands of households in our operational areas. The situation is particularly dire in Jubaland state, where the scale of displaced households is staggering, exceeding 33,000. The floods have submerged 4,000 latrines and 122 water sources and inundated 4,000 hectares of farmland in Gedo region. Regrettably, ten flood-related deaths have been reported in Jubaland.

NAPAD’s Urgent Appeal:

Immediate and targeted action is crucial to prevent loss of lives and disease outbreaks among the children, women, and men affected by the floods. At the forefront of relief efforts in flood-affected regions, Nomadic Assistance for Peace and Development (NAPAD) urgently seeks partnerships to provide humanitarian support. The communities we serve face pressing challenges that demand immediate attention, and your assistance will profoundly impact their lives.

Our Critical Needs Include:

  • Provision of emergency food aid for 6,500 displaced households.
  • Provision of safe drinking water through urgent rehabilitation, regular chlorination of water sources, and water trucking services where necessary.
  • Construction of 300 Emergency Latrines at the evacuation site of displaced households.
  • Provision of 12000 mosquito nets for vulnerable households, especially those with pregnant women and children under five years, to protect them against vector-borne diseases.
  • Provision of 6,500 hygiene kits for displaced households to mitigate against AWDs/cholera.

Post Floods Reconstruction:

Looking beyond the immediate crisis, NAPAD foresees the urgent need to rehabilitate and reconstruct water sources and water supply systems in villages, learning spaces, sanitation infrastructures, health facilities, and irrigation systems. It also supports the households to rebuild their livelihood heads.

How You Can Help:

Your support is invaluable in saving lives and rebuilding communities. We urge you to consider contributing to our relief efforts and partnering with NAPAD to impact the lives of those struggling to survive during and in the aftermath of this devastating flood.
